Dementia Care Consulting

Our dementia care consulting service is available to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and circumstances. Dragonfly owner and consultant LaVon Lenaway offers individuals and caregivers an extensive background and professional experience in state-funded low-income benefits, HUD Senior Housing, and private-pay luxury memory care communities.

Assisting You at Every Stage of Dementia Care

Consulting services are intended for any informal, unpaid family caregiver on whom the responsibility of care has fallen. Just as new babies don’t come with manuals, and their care is not always obvious or easy, an adult with a dementia diagnosis doesn’t come with a play-by-play book, and the steps are not always obvious or common knowledge. We believe in asking for help and providing support to understand all available options and resources for caregivers and their families.

Whether you recently learned of a loved one’s memory loss diagnosis or you’ve been in the thick of caregiving and navigating memory loss symptoms for several years, it is primarily important to know that you are not alone. Thankfully, there are many options for community education, online resources, and support groups.

Still, there does come a time when your situation is nuanced from everyone else's. This is when it may be particularly helpful to speak with someone in the field of Gerontology and Dementia Care who knows how to navigate all the care options, ideally without the pressure of marketing.

That’s where our services come in. When working with Dragonfly Senior Navigation, you’ll find it refreshing to know that we are not beholden to any other organization or business. Simply put, your best interests and those of whom you care for will always remain the primary goal of our time together.

Unlike many other claimed “free services” in the area, our business receives no incentives or reimbursement for referrals, recommendations, or successful transitions to care. We believe in the sanctity of life at all stages. So, when working with Dragonfly, you can rest well at night, knowing you are making the best decisions for your loved one with dementia.

What You Can Expect During Our Session

The first part of our meeting will be dedicated to listening and assessing your current situation. Every individual and cast of characters is very different, so it’s helpful to know who, what, when, where, and why of your story when creating a personalized plan that caters to your specific needs. Where you are in the dementia journey, and financial factors often play a significant role in these conversations, so while specific private information may not be needed initially, some questions may need to be considered/asked to help guide us to appropriate services and resources available for the memory impaired person.

The consultation aims to help you identify the best services for your loved one, discuss how you are coping with your loved one’s diagnosis and care, and provide some practical tools to improve care for you and your loved one. You may find one consultation sufficient to guide you, or we may decide to schedule additional sessions together. These conversations can be challenging, perhaps even traumatic, for the person with the diagnosis, and it is suggested that the person with the diagnosis not be present during the visit, if possible. Consultations can also be held via a Zoom call, at a library, coffee shop, restaurant, or wherever you feel most comfortable.

First Hour of Consulting: $135

*Additional 30-minute increments are an additional $40 each

*one $25 flat travel fee for each meeting

ALL SERVICES

  • Consulting

Our guidance consultation is intended for individual caregivers and family members caring for loved ones with a memory loss diagnosis. Whether you’ve been “in the thick” of caregiving for years or are new to the responsibilities of your role, our services ensure you are not alone.

  • Support Groups

Let’s partner to enhance the care of loved ones. If you’re part of a memory care community and looking to improve the care available to your residents’ loved ones, our support groups allow caregivers to make new friends and learn they are not alone in the caregiving journey, making things easier or more enjoyable throughout navigating care.

  • Frontline Caregivers

These are group education modules for professional caregivers. They are intended for formal caregivers working in memory care communities, skilled care communities, adult day services, home health care agencies, hospice care organizations, and shared housing.

  • Educational Modules

Individual or group educational modules for families and caregivers. These modules are intended for family caregivers, unpaid volunteers, fellow church members, neighbors, or anyone who finds themselves “informally” standing alongside someone with memory impairment.
