“LaVon and I got to know each other during the time my mom was in an assisted living and COVID was on high alert. We had zoom meetings for support groups of children and spouses with loved ones in assisted living. One of the first zoom meetings once COVID had hit and we were "locked out" of the assisted living from seeing our loved ones, there were three or four ladies and LaVon talking and we just all started crying due to the stress and hardship of not being able to see our loved ones. LaVon just has such a huge caring heart and was able to reassure all of us that not only were our loved ones going to be ok BUT that we as individuals were not alone during this process and we were also going to be ok. “I met LaVon in June of 2019 when I transferred my mother to a memory care facility due to her issues with dementia. This entire community was foreign, scary and nerve-wracking to me and my family. We were scared of the uncertain new life my mother & kids’ grandmother would be living without familiar surroundings or family. Thank God we were in the kind, caring, and capable hands of LaVon, the Director of Resident and Family Services in the community. Honestly, I breathed a sigh of relief after meeting her. LaVon was the heartbeat of the community, overseeing many many tasks, like being in charge of emotional support for families. Her monthly friends & family lunches called “Lunch Escapade,” was a nice personal touch to get to know each family. Her monthly newsletter for resident news for families & friends. brought comfort to families that could not be there in person (due to COVID-19)!! LaVon brought peace to me (and others), with her monthly adult child care support groups, her informative newsletters, which included referrals for books, links & support. The wonderful emails from her about how she sat with my mom looking at my family photos to keep her stimulated. LaVon has written her own testimony through her outstanding work and ethics.”

“LaVon Lenaway is an expert in the field of gerontology. I have had the pleasure of knowing LaVon through my role as a social work professor in the Department of Social Work at Trinity Christian College. LaVon is an alumnus of Trinity and has continuously stayed connected to the college and more specifically the sociology and social work departments since graduating. It is such an awful disease and having someone who can help direct you as to what you need to do first, second, etc. is such a comfort in a situation that no one likes to do. If you are looking for someone that has a passion for her work, LaVon is your girl!! There are so many things that you need to do and know while transitioning someone into a facility, it is helpful to have someone who knows the ins and outs of the facilities you are looking at to help you. LaVon is such a compassionate person and never ever made us feel rushed or that "1" more question was an imposition.
